Live Bingo Decline In Nova Scotia

Some players in Nova Scotia fear that bingo as we know it could well be obsolete before very long.  In this part of the world, many people use the game to not only meet up with friends for a night out, they also give the proceeds to shore up funding for local food banks, fire trucks, dogs for the blind and even support for local hockey leagues.  Indeed, it is the loss of the social aspect of the game that will alter every day life.

With the advent of casinos and online gambling, physical halls where bingo games are played have all reported less attendance and these numbers are decreasing as we speak.  With the decline in player numbers, it is only a matter of time until these halls close down forever.

Many people comment that it is not just the game that gets them to go along, it is the whole aspect of meeting up with people when one feels the need to, and the charitable causes that all benefit from the act of going to have some fun at the same time.

It is obvious then that these charities need some help from the government in the form of allowing halls to install electronic bingo machines and allow them to hand out free tickets to get people coming back.  The industry has shrunk from around two hundred and fifty million dollars per year income some ten years back to just fifty million dollars today.  Since so many services are relying on this income, this is a staggering eighty per cent drop in revenue.

A similar thing has happened in Spain recently since a smoking ban was enforced and it seems that Nova Scotia is going the same route.  Along with the smoking ban, the competition from online gaming outlets is really dragging the whole business to its knees.  Even the six thousand charities that depended on this income are now down to three thousand so this should give some indication of what is going on here.

It would seem then that the electronic age is making people more insular and one wonders where this is going to end.  Players in Nova Scotia believe that the bingo halls will not be there for the next generation to enjoy unless something is done about it before it is too late.  Indeed, once people get out of the habit of going to a bingo hall, it is very hard to bring them back later on.
